Strangers in the park


Based on the theory that everyone is connected by six degrees of separation. The concept is here, what would happen if we removed one or became say, the second link, rather than the third one. Or if you simply dont agree with the theory, what if we added another degree, when would you eventually agree with the theory? What about the seventh, does it link to the first? It must link to one of the five as there are six degrees of separation. This poem is therefore about breaking the rules of this theory, not just for humans but of poems. Breaking the rules of staying out of my mind. Breaking out the expected, breaking your mould. If a poem can break out, so can anyone. If you are number six you might know each other but if you are number five you might not.

What would another degree of separation bring?
Brother-in-law, murderer or perhaps best mate?
Maybe the wouldn’t now even be straight.
There lies the theory, strangers to the end
However, I'm the writer, so come on lets pretend
This rule is a figment of your imagination
Six, Six, Six, is that your limitation?
Read my poem and I'll show you how it fails
As you’ll see, people and poem can go off the rails
Charlie and Thomas, step into my dream
Of seas of crimson red and laughter of cream
Take a trip under my dripping meadow
Blink in telling time as the scarecrows grow
Hand over your wildest thoughts this day
Let me introduce you to a dreams amnesty
A river of fish with water swimming through
Broken emotions, mended with super glue
Where an invisible ink-man asks for a light
To hear the plastic emu say no just out of spite
So there, a poem can break out of its mold
Yet a human will still follow any rumor its been told
As this myth says there are just six degrees
So can I lose the third and add another instead please?
To create external truth, relationships and fun
I calculate that Ill need at least another one
To join my number, someone must do a subtraction
Yet, it would seem adding two and two is the only attraction
So until the rules are somehow changed
I'll choose to be single or considered deranged
Yes, its a loss Tom and Charlie has one layer of separation
Still, I call that lucky as right now I need inflation
